BROTHER TO BROTHER: Sitting in the front row at Calvin Klein’s men’s show, Joe Jonas said he was looking forward to attending the opening night of his brother Nick’s latest Broadway show, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” at the end of the month.

“I plan to spend a lot more time in New York as we’re also going to start working on a new album together,” added Jonas, who reminisced about his first Broadway experience as a teenager in “La Bohème.” “Opera was new to me, I didn’t speak Italian,” he laughed.

Fashion’s favorite violinist, Charlie Siem, said that after the show he would be heading back to London to perform a concert at the city’s Science Museum, which will be aired on PBS. “It’s this special musical show that will feature space images from NASA,” he said.

Capricho Magazine: Joe Jonas Interview
January 19, 2012, 10:46 am
Filed under: Joe Jonas | Tags: , ,

Capricho: Was it hard to tell your brothers you were going to release a solo album?
Joe Jonas: I told them about two years ago. We were in Rome, Italy. We were talking about our plans and I told about my solo project. They loved my idea and and even encouraged me to do it.

Capricho: What kind of advice did they give you?
Joe Jonas: Nick and Kevin told me to take my time and find the music I’d like to do… to do my own music.

Capricho: How was this discovery?
Joe Jonas: Oh, soooooo cool! My wish was to find a sound that came from my heart… a sound that everyone could understand.

Capricho: Are there any famous artists that influenced you?
Joe Jonas: I listened to a lot of electronica music. Guys like Kanye West, Coldplay and Empire Of The Sun influenced me.

Capricho: Do you ever get scared about losing your ‘Jonas Brothers’ fans?
Joe Jonas:  I think people liked and understood my new look on music. Luckily, the number of fans I will have will increase and many fans have stuck around.

Capricho: What happened in your life that influenced your solo album?
Joe Jonas:  I grew up and matured because of my relationships, the bad and the good sides. One of the influences on the album would be my relationships.

Capricho: You praised Demi Lovato’s last album. How did you feel while listening?
Joe Jonas:  I’m so glad she had all support she needed and she’s happy now. Demi is so special to me.

Capricho: How do you react when you read negative criticism about you?
Joe Jonas: Sometimes, they get me sad. Especially when it’s about my music, which is something I’ve worked really hard on. I’ve been hurt. And it isn’t even only with the critics but with the fans too.

Capricho: What do you think about your comparison with Justin Timberlake?
Joe Jonas:  I’m flattered, but it’s hard to believe. Justin is Justin. Anyone can compare us. He has such an amazing career. Of course he is an example, but I don’t see me reaching all he has reached. (laughs)

Capricho: Are you still going to act?
Joe Jonas:  Yeah. I’m working on a movie with a buddie. It’s a project I have been wanting to do for a long time ago. It has drama, action, adventure. Besides producing the movie, I’m thinking about acting in it.

Capricho: Are you the kind of boy that can remain friends with your exes?
Joe Jonas:  Yeah, it’s important to keep good friends. I’ve been lucky becoming friends with some exes. I’m nice with them. (laughs) If we dated, that’s because we have some kind of connection. It’s hard to say goodbye.

Capricho: What kind of boyfriend would you say you are?
Joe Jonas: I treat the girl like a princess, with respect. I travel from anywhere I’m on tour, just to see her. My girlfriend is always the high priority on my appointment book.

Capricho: Have you ever been dumped and did it inspire into a song?
Joe Jonas: Yeah, I’ve been dumped before and it makes me respect the girls that wanna date me. (laughs) What happens is: we learn really good thing in relationships and it appears on the songs.

Capricho: Have you ever cried about a girlfriend?
Joe Jonas:  Yeah, it happens sometimes. (laughs) This is the kind of experience you have to pass by. At this moment, music helps you to run from the sadness.

Capricho: What do you listen to when you’re sad?
Joe Jonas: The Band Of Horses’ song, “No One’s Gonna Love You”, which is beautiful. That one is so good to listen when you’re sad.

Capricho: Your iPhone doesn’t stop ringing…
Joe Jonas: I’m sorry for the messages tone. (laughs)

Capricho: What’s the most useful gadget you have?
Joe Jonas: My iPhone. I use it all the time, the battery is always dying. I always bring more then one charger in my luggage… but i always lose it. (laughs)

Capricho: Kevin’s married already.. Do you ever think about getting married?
Joe Jonas: No. For now, the focus is totally on my music.

Capricho: But you don’t even think about it? Like, in ten years…
Joe Jonas: In ten years? Yeah, that’s a good idea.  (laughs)

Trinity Stars Magazine: Special Issue No. 5: January – February 2012: Joe Jonas Interview
January 17, 2012, 10:37 am

Joe Jonas is featured on the cover of the French magazine, Trinity Stars.

Joe did a photoshoot and interview for the magazine, Trinity Stars who visited him a few months ago in Los Angeles.

Trinity: Hello Joe, and thank you for your participation in this issue. Did you like the photoshoot?

Joe: Yes, I loved it. I worked with a great stylist, a photographer and creative director. They really created something that was unusual and I like it. I like making things that people do not expect necessarily to me.

Trinity: What concept did you prefer?

Joe: The stone wall and shadow.

Trinity: Does the release of your solo album makes you nervous?

Joe: In fact, I felt more excited than nervous. I worked so hard on the album today, I really want the public finds out. I never thought I would one day become a solo artist. Having this opportunity now, it makes me want to be in a really positive position. This project for me is just great.

Trinity: Do you feel more pressure because this time, you’re doing a project alone?

Joe: Yes, absolutely. Being alone gave me the opportunity to acquire a true creative freedom. This allowed me to write more honest and personal songs. When I’m with my brothers, inevitably, every song is the result of our collective thoughts.

Trinity: How would you define the musical style of your album?

Joe: This is a very rhythmic album with a combination of many sounds, all very different. There’s hip-hop, dance and electro.

Trinity: In what terms would you say that it is different from what you did before?

Joe: It’s different in the sense that my brothers and I, we worked mainly pop and rock. My album has a really different sound. My concerts are very different too. There are brilliant choreography and really, I took great pleasure in the dance scene.

Trinity: Did you write the lyrics or the melodies of Fastlife?

Joe: Except for two songs. I co-wrote every song on this album.

Trinity: How do you find inspiration? Who inspires you in your personal life?

Joe: I find inspiration in all sorts of topics. I can talk about many different things: the fans, my travels and my relationships.

Trinity: Can you explain the title of your album?

Joe: The title of my album, Fastlife reflects how my life seems to go fast. Of course, I love my life as it is, but it goes a hundred miles an hour. Sometimes I go in four or five different countries in the same week! It’s really crazy and insane. I wanted to write about all that.

Trinity: What was a real challenge for you while working on this album?

Joe: The first time I had to do a solo concert, I was super nervous on the plane. I realized that my brothers were not with me. But just when I got on stage, the anxiety disappeared. And I loved it. I am so proud of my show and my music. The reaction of my fans was great.

Trinity: Working alone, it has been real for you. How would you describe this experience?

Joe: When I was young, I did not already join a group. When I started doing some of Jonas, I did not think that one day I sing alone. In fact, every stage of my career was something unexpected, almost unreal. So I feel like an incredible opportunity, because my fans, whatever I do, I still support. And that’s very important to me.

Trinity: How would you define the word success?

Joe: Success is being able to do what makes you happy and continue to fulfill your dreams.

Trinity: A word for your French fans?

Joe: I love you. Stay great and wonderful as you are. And very soon, I will see you in France.

NY Mag: Crazy Joe Jonas Fans Staked Out His Hotel in Milan

The Times’ Eric Wilson reports that fervent Joe Jonas fangirls staked out what’s presumably his hotel in Milan during the city’s menswear fashion week: “All around the lobby and lounge, groups of young girls, ordering one bottle of water among them, sat with their eyes glued on the front door, hoping for a sighting.” Wilson got some face time with Joe himself at the after-party for the Calvin Klein show yesterday, during which Joe told him, “I like to wear something a little different or a little bit bizarre, to have people ask you what you are wearing, you know.” Because, you know, people never do that.

New York Times: Fashion & Style: In Milan, Never Dull
January 16, 2012, 12:33 pm

Casual observers slipping into the Hotel Principe di Savoia this weekend would have noticed they were not the only casual observers. All around the lobby and lounge, groups of young girls, ordering one bottle of water among them, sat with their eyes glued on the front door, hoping for a sighting of the performer Joe Jonas, who was in town, once again, to attend the Calvin Klein men’s show during Milan Fashion Week.

The scene was actually less fraught with expectation on Sunday night at the show and a party after it, where Mr. Jonas, after seeing the collection designed by Italo Zucchelli, said he personally preferred the oversize sweatshirts trimmed with crocodile and a few suits.

Mr. Zucchelli, standing next to him at a restaurant just off the Via Montenapoleone, was describing to guests the many fittings it took to perfect his camel jackets and a navy double-breasted coat that was so oversize as to approach cape territory.

“I never use this word,” Mr. Zucchelli said, “but they were classics.”

Mr. Jonas, wearing a perforated shirt that had the texture of a reptile, said that when he shops: “I like to wear something a little different or a little bit bizarre, to have people ask you what you are wearing, you know. I’ve always been into fashion and always tried to put it into my everyday life.”

Also at the party was Charlie Siem, a strikingly good-looking classical musician with puppy dog eyes, like Darren Criss with a violin. Mr. Siem, one could argue, has been fairly calculating in his embrace of the fashion world to further his career, befriending the photographer Mario Testino, appearing at runway shows and modeling for Dunhill. He seems to be well aware of his hotness and is known for raising his eyebrows seductively during performances.

“I’ve been practicing for many years to get them this high, with eyebrow bench presses,” Mr. Siem said.

“I think appearance is important if you are a live performer,” he said. “You certainly have to be aware of the presence you have on stage and the visual impact you have.”

Lately he’s been wearing Calvin Klein suits, he said, “because I like things to be very simple – muted colors, not too many colors – so I guess dull and conservative. Calvin Klein is very much that way.”

Catching himself quickly, he went into reverse.

“Not dull!” Mr. Siem said. “Very clean lines and smart.”
